Thanks to the 40th anniversary of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, this year so far has seen plenty of tributes to David Bowie. As part of Outfest, actress/cabaret queen Ann Magnuson performs Bowie Cabaret & The Jobriath Medley, directed by the Mumps' Kristian Hoffman. Magnuson's current show is an updated version of her two previous tributes to the glam rock gods. She's even releasing a Jobriath covers album, also produced by Hoffman, and featuring guest vocals from Sparks' Russell Mael. Following Magnuson's homage, Outfest screens Jobriath A.D., Kieran Turner's 2011 documentary. Narrated by Henry Rollins, the film charts the early '70s, L.A.-by-way-of-Philly singer's quick rise and even quicker fall, from Bowie's American glitter cousin (while Bowie only flirted with his sexuality, Jobriath was one of the first openly gay artists signed to a major record label) to forgotten '80s AIDS casualty after only two albums. The movie includes archival performances and interviews with a strange motley of admirers and cohorts, including Svengali Jerry Brandt (Carly Simon's first manager), Magnuson, Wayne County, Def Leppard's Joe Elliott and the Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears.
