Damian Lazarus Preps for Coachella: Electronic artist Damian Lazarus started DJing and producing when he got turntables and a mixer at 14 years old.

“It took me years to perfect mixing, I’m still trying to perfect being serious,” he says. “There came a moment in my mid twenties when my best friend took me to one side and told me that he believed I could make it professionally as a DJ. It’s important to have someone you trust to give you this kind of confidence boost, for sure it really helped me and within a short space of time I was playing in clubs and festivals.

He describes his sound today as trippy psychedelic house and techno.

“Always future looking,” he says. “I like to break the boundaries of genres and keep an open mind. But I’ll make you dance and attempt to blow your mind.”

Lazarus says that the lockdown during the pandemic saw him achieve maximum creativity.

“I recorded two albums, produced a bunch of remixes for other artists, signed some incredible music to my record label, crosstown rebels, and launched a brand new label, secret teachings,” he says. “I also wept a lot at the state of the world and did my best to support family and friends who were suffering.”

The DJ and producer is playing Coachella this month.

“I’m super excited to be back at Coachella for the second time performing,” he says. “Expect mind expanding rhythm and sound and some pretty cool costumes.”

Looking ahead, Lazarus has plenty planned for 2022.

“I will be beginning a new residency at Hi Ibiza alongside black coffee with my party, Wild is Love,” he says. “There will be more next level Day Zero and Get Lost festivals, the release of my first movie soundtrack, Beijing Spring. Plus a new single with Gorgon City. I aim to spend this year doing everything I love… and more.”
