Stolen Vehicle Crash near Alamo Drive Left Caltrans Worker Injured

VACAVILLE, CA (April 27, 2023) – Tuesday afternoon, Damani Mathews Jr. was arrested after stolen vehicle pursuit ends in a crash on Interstate 80. The California Highway Patrol responded to the call around 10:23 a.m. regarding a carjacked vehicle driving along eastbound Interstate 80 at Interstate 780. However, authorities called off the chase for the stolen white Acura after the suspect drove recklessly. At about 10:36 a.m., the suspect went through an active construction zone near Alamo Drive and hit a truck and a highway worker. Afterward, the stolen vehicle’s driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. 29-year-old Damani Mathews Jr. of Oakland was later detained by Solano County deputies. Authorities booked Mathews Jr. into jail for multiple felony charges after being medically cleared. Thousands of people are injured each year due to reckless driving.
