Funkmosphere Promo Video

Thanks to a post on the MySpace blog for San Francisco club Sweater Funk, we learned that tonight, LA-based DJ and Stones Throw recording artist Dam-Funk will be celebrating his birthday at Funkmosphere.

Held every Monday night at Westside bar Carbon, Funkmosphere has become a favorite for locals in search of '80s funk and boogie sounds. Along with resident DJs Randy Watson and Laroj, Dam-Funk relies on original, vinyl pressings of roller rink jams and should-have-been hits from an era long since past. Tonight's special guest is John Blunck of Sweater Funk, the San Francisco counterpart of Funkmosphere and a must-visit for your next trip to the Bay Area.

Funkmosphere typically gets packed by 11:30 p.m., so if you want to practice your pop-and-lock moves, make sure to arrive early.

We perused Funkmosphere's YouTube channel for a glimpse at some of his favorite tracks. Check out the video clips below for a sample of what you might hear tonight.

Zapp & Roger “Computer Love” (Live in Aruba)

Paul Hardcastle “King Tut”

Cliff Dawson “I Can Love You Better”
