Concert venue safety and security will be reevaluated by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office in response to recent violent incidents.

District Attorney George Gascón said he would meet with stakeholders in a roundtable discussion to discuss the safety at public entertainment events.

“We all have a right to feel safe when we’re attending these events,” District Attorney Gascón said. “We will ensure that safety measures are taken to protect performers so that Los Angeles can continue to be a hub for music, comedy and other artistic performances in this country.”

The meeting comes on the heels of comedian Dave Chappelle being attacked on stage during his May 3 show at the Hollywood Bowl.

Gascón added that “something must be done,” pointing to the unsolved murder of rapper Drakeo the Ruler at the “Once Upon a Time In L.A.” Festival, and the deaths of 10 concertgoers at the Travis Scott-led Astroworld festival in Houston, TX.

The district attorney’s office assessed misdemeanor charges on the man who attacked Chappelle, despite public cries and a request from Chappelle’s attorney for harsher felony charges.

Explaining why the Hollywood Bowl incident did not constitute felony charges, District Attorney Gascón said the attacker was not holding the alleged weapon in the midst of the incident, the man was immediately apprehended and Chappelle was not injured.

The venue safety meeting will consist of venue stakeholders, security companies, law enforcement and district attorney officials.
