Political fodder: Robert Rizzo behind bars

When former Bell City Manager Robert Rizzo was frog-marched off to jail last month, some — including Rizzo's lawyer — questioned the timing. The D.A.'s office had been investigating Bell for more than a year, but waited until six weeks before the November election to make the arrest.

District Attorney Steve Cooley, the Republican candidate for attorney general, unveiled his first TV spot today. And sure enough, it features Robert Rizzo.

The ad, which is after the jump, includes Cooley's quote that the Bell scandal was “corruption on steroids.”

Update: The Harris campaign responds.

San Francisco Sheriff Mike Hennessey called Cooley's claims “false,” adding: “In my 30 years as the elected Sheriff of San Francisco, she's the toughest prosecutor we have had. Kamala Harris's record of innovation and combating all types of crime makes her the best candidate to be California's next Attorney General.”
