We're pretty sure there's a universal law, written somewhere in the cosmos, that calories don't count when you're buying from a bake sale. It's a fallacy we'll be using to rationalize all the sugar we plan to consume at Cupcake Camp L.A. taking place at the Music Box in Hollywood on Saturday, November 20th.

This event is essentially a cupcake convention at which local bakers will showcase their best recipes, as well as debut new creations for weddings and for the holidays. (See the full list of participants here.) It's also a fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting three unique charities.

This being a cupcake event, one would think the beneficiaries would perhaps be a hunger organization or a children's hospital. Nope.

BakeSpace, which put together this shindig, has identified three very interesting groups to lend a hand to. Two are animal-themed: Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, an organization that prevents equine abuse and saves retired racehorses from slaughter, as well as the American Tortoise Rescue which provides sanctuary and advocacy for turtles and tortoises all around the world. The third, InvisiblePeople.tv, is an organization that helps homeless people produce videos of their life stories and promotes them via online social media.

Tickets for Cupcake Camp L.A. are $15 and include five tastes. Kids under 5-years-old get three tastes for $5. VIP tickets are $30 and promise no line at the front door. In an additional measure to prevent long lines, there are two tastings: Tasting “A” is from noon – 2 p.m., Tasting “B” is from 3-5 p.m. Purchase tickets here.
