23-Year-Old Woman Arrested after Police Pursuit near Avenue 72

TULARE COUNTY, CA (May 8, 2023) – Sunday night, police arrested Crystal Olvera after a DUI accident on Highway 99. The incident happened April 30th, at around 5:30 p.m. on the southbound lanes of the highway near Avenue 72. According to reports, an officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on an Acura driven by 23-year-old Olvera. However, Olvera failed to stop and the pursuit ensued. She then led officers on a brief pursuit before she failed to yield at a stop sign and slammed into a westbound Toyota Rav4 that had the right of way. Upon impact, the Toyota was pushed into an embankment. Olvera and the four occupants of the Toyota suffered minor injuries. Paramedics arrived shortly after and transported the victims to a local hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, officers took intoxicated Olvera into custody for DUI charges and felony evading officers. It is a law enforcement officer’s duty to conduct traffic stops to serve and protect the community. It could be a stressful situation for both the driver and the officer. Therefore, it is important to remain calm when an officer is attempting to pull you over. Find the nearest and safest area to pull over and then park your car. Stay in the vehicle until the officer gives you further instructions.
