41-Year-Old Woman Dies in Fatal Head-on Collision near 14th Avenue

PHOENIX, AZ (May 23, 2023) – Monday afternoon, police responded to a car accident that claimed the life of Crystal Conover. On May 1st, at 1:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 14th Avenue and Thunderbird Road. According to the police, they arrived at the scene and found one vehicle engulfed in flames with a driver inside. The driver was later identified as 41-year-old Conover. Furthermore, the investigation showed that Conover was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Thunderbird Road and slammed head-on into a truck. Initially, Conover was involved in a crash before the head-on collision. The truck driver sustained non-life-threatening wounds and was transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, Conover was pronounced dead at the scene by the responding officers. Moreover, both directions of the roadway were briefly shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties. Meanwhile, impairment is suspected as the factor of the incident. An active investigation is still underway.
