The Crown Fire in northern Los Angeles County that burned nearly 14,000 acres since it broke out Thursday afternoon was expected to be contained by late Monday, county fire officials said. About 2,460 structures near and in Palmdale had been threatened, they said.

It was one of two fires that broke out only miles apart between Agua Dulce and Acton in northern Los Angeles County Thursday before 3 p.m. Late Sunday morning a 20-acre blaze broke out bear Calabasas City Hall. Firefighters had it finished in under two hours, but not before flames licked the side of the 101 freeway and created a traffic back-up.

The Crown Fire, by the way, started about 2:20 p.m. Thursday when someone working on a car wheel created sparks that set off dry brush in the Agua Dulce area.
