Tonight Playwrights Arena, the critically acclaimed theater company, will acclaim critic Steven Leigh Morris of the L.A. Weekly, along with actress Fran Bennett and the Lodestone Theater Ensemble.

The event, “Hot Night in the City,” will feature plenty of live singing of stage songs written by such L.A. composers as Nick Salamone and Corey Madden, as well as slinging of cocktails. Performers include Melody Butiu, Laural Meade and many others.

The fundraising event for the Arena will offer thank-yous to Morris for his efforts to promote and sustain live theater in Los Angeles, and to Bennett, who is the Associate Director of the Company of Women and a longtime member of the Los Angeles Women's Shakespeare Company — where, among other roles, she was seen in last year's production of Othello at the Theatre @ Boston Court. The evening will also pay tribute to Lodestone, which currently has an L.A. Weekly-recommended bill of one-acts running, called Ten to Life. Come on down! Ultra Suede, 661 N. Robertson Blvd., West Hollywood; 6:30 p.m.  (213) 627-4473
