A mandate is coming to L.A. County, requiring proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative test to enter L.A. County indoor bars, breweries, night clubs wineries and “mega events.”

The mandate was discussed by L.A. Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer at Wednesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

“This modified health officer order aligns with the continued need to reduce risk of transmission and increase vaccination coverage,” Ferrer told the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday. “This is a reasonable path forward that will position us to be better able to break the cycle of surges.”

Ferrer noted that the health officer order would be officially announced later this week, and would affect several indoor gathering spots, as well as what the county describes as outdoor “mega events” with an occupancy of more than 10,000 people. Such events include sports games at Dodger Stadium and amusement parks such as Universal Studios and Six Flags Magic Mountain.

A similar mandate was given in Los Angeles for indoor “mega events” holding more than 5,000 people.

The mandate will extend to employees working at these events or businesses, with a deadline of being fully vaccinated by November 4.

The negative test must have been taken within 72 hours of the event.

On Monday, L.A. Public Health announced that COVID-19 related hospitalizations have been dropping in the county with 1,224 people currently hospitalized.
