The circumstances surrounding 19-year-old Courtney Bergman's murder yesterday — along with that of her mother, Vicki Bergman — keep getting creepier.

Redondo Beach police immediately suspected the younger Bergman's boyfriend, 23-year-old Jonathan Scott Chacon, as the murderer. He was on the loose until a tip came in early this morning that he might have flown the border. Mexican police and U.S. federal agents soon found him hiding out in a hotel in Rosarito…

… and returned him to Redondo Beach, where he will be booked for murder.

The Daily Breeze caused a stir when it printed, yesterday, that Bergman had Tweeted this ominous message just hours before her death: “Coooool. I got a killer next to me. Hahaha. WTF.” But it turns out the Breeze had the wrong Courtney Bergman, and the girl who was Twitter-joking about the “killer” is a little rattled. (Ah, the new-media dangers of stalking your subjects online.)

Police have confirmed that Chacon, the murder suspect, was in a relationship with 19-year-old Bergman.

And Lieutenant Joe Hoffman told the Breeze that his motive may have been “some sort of domestic issue, based on their relationship.”

Creepiest of all are his dark tattoos and tattered getaway vehicle, as detailed in the “PERSON OF INTEREST” community notice:

TATTOOS: Right upper arm — grim reaper & nautical star; Left forearm — death; Chest — distraught

VEHICLE: 1996 Ford mustang convertible, black … Damage to rear bumper & trunk lid; also convertible top damaged on passenger & driver side

Friends of the victims have told various news stations that the mother was a nurse, and that the daughter went to Redondo Union High School. On Tuesday morning around 10 a.m., Vicki's co-worker came upon the two dead bodies at the apartment where they lived, in the 1900 block of Rockefeller Lane.
