The federal government, she is a fickle lover. And even in this time of stimulus, Los Angeles County is getting stuck with more of the bill to jail illegal immigrants who have been arrested locally.

KPCC (89.3 FM) reports that the county will see $3 million fewer dollars from the feds in funding that is sent annually to help local governments deal with what some argue is a federal problem. The county's annual allocation from the federal State Criminal Alien Assistance Program is set to be reduced from about $15 million to about $12 million.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore tells the station the feds should pick up the entire county bill for housing undocumented immigrations — about $95 million per year.

The annual appropriations bill from the U.S. House and Senate will cut nationwide funding for the program 18 percent.
