L.A. Councilwoman Janice Hahn has taken a fundraising lead in her race for Congress, with the primary election a month away.

In reports out this evening, Hahn raised $274,000 for the May 17 election. Her nearest competitor, Secretary of State Debra Bowen, brought in $195,000.

Among Hahn's contributors are 18 lobbyists at City Hall, who together kicked in $20,000. Lobbyists are prohibited from contributing to city campaigns, but there is no law against them giving to city officeholders who are running in state or federal elections.

Hahn is also expected to benefit from a dose of independent expenditures from the L.A. County Federation of Labor.

The 36th Congressional District leans to the left, but three Republican candidates have also been dialing for dollars.

Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin leads the Republican pack with $66,000. Hermosa Beach Councilman Kit Bobko and Redondo Beach City Attorney Mike Webb trail with $31,000 and $30,000, respectively.

There's no report, as of this hour, from antiwar activist Marcy Winograd. *Update. Winograd raised $50,000.

The primary will be held on May 17, with the top two vote-getters advancing to a general election on July 12.
