Kids ages 5 to 11 in Los Angeles will not have to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter indoor settings.

On Friday, the L.A. City Council made an adjustment to its most recent vaccine mandate to reflect that it will only apply to Angelenos 12 and older and not all ages eligible for a vaccine.

While the order went into effect on Monday, Nov. 9, it will not be enforceable until Nov. 29, as L.A. businesses will be required to ask patrons to show proof of vaccination at indoor restaurants, gyms, movie theaters and more.

Businesses in violation of the order may face a $1,000 citation after a second violation and $2,000-$5,000 citations thereafter—carried out by the Department of Building and Safety.

No longer included in the order will be malls and shopping centers with the council deeming them difficult to enforce with multiple entry points.
