“The Man With the Silver Case,” the black-and-white neo-noir thriller written and directed by Colin Best, brings its mystery to Los Angeles with “What’s In The Silver Case?”, a free contest offering $25,000 to whoever completes a trail of clues. The first clue is hidden in the film, inviting viewers to pay close attention before heading out to search for answers across the city.

At the center of the story is a nameless man, played by Stuart Reid, who agrees to deliver a silver briefcase to an organization operating in the shadows. He carries it handcuffed to his body, a physical closeness that turns the assignment into a burden that is difficult to leave behind. When a pursuit forces him to take refuge in a safe house, an unsuspecting family becomes exposed to the violence that follows him. The object fuels curiosity, while the consequences of carrying it reach those who never chose to get involved.

“Colin did a fantastic job creating that feeling that you have to know what’s inside the silver case. We wanted to take that curiosity and FOMO beyond the screen, turn Los Angeles into an extension of the story, and create something people would want to talk about, share, and actually be part of,” explains David Soltani, managing partner at DSo Consulting and one of the strategists behind the initiative. The city thus becomes a space where viewers can pursue a question that first emerged on screen.

Filmed in Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland, “The Man With the Silver Case” was completed in just 19 days. Colin Best chose to shoot in black and white using a single camera, embracing a stripped-down production approach that suited the film’s neo-noir aesthetic. Featuring Lara Marian and Tom Ohmer, the production was distributed by Freestyle Digital Media and required the full effort of an independent filmmaking project.
The search begins with “The Man With the Silver Case,” which viewers can stream for free on Kapang or watch on Prime Video. The film contains the first clue, and those who crack it can submit their answer through lookagain.la to enter the competition. The hunt then moves into Los Angeles, where later stages require in-person participation. A maximum of 50 contestants can qualify for the final event, taking place October 28–30, with the winner expected to be announced on October 30, 2026. Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs.

The briefcase leaves a question unanswered, while Los Angeles provides the space to pursue it, with the possibility that a seemingly minor detail may ultimately prove to be the key to moving forward.
