Cortez, a new restaurant at the corner of Sunset and Allison Avenue in Echo Park, is opening tonight at 5 p.m. Tonight's dinner is a soft opening, but eventually the restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Cortez is owned by Marta Teegan and Robert Stelzner, who also own Cookbook, the tiny gourmet grocer and prepared foods store (winner of this year's Best of L.A. Award for Best Organic Greengrocer) in Echo Park, about a mile from Cortez's location.

According to a story about Cortez on Grub Street a few weeks back, the restaurant will serve “a consistently morphing menu of locally procured organic produce, sustainable seafood, and pasture-raised meats, along with pickles and charcuterie made in house.”

If the food at Cortez is as good as the prepared foods at Cookbook, we ought to be in for a treat.

Cortez: 1356 Allison Avenue, Echo Park.
