Cops this week were searching for a hit-and-run driver who ended the life of a young Hollywood cameraman who was the son of a federal judge.

David Pregerson, 23, died on New Year's Eve following the Dec. 27 collision in Pacific Palisades, police said.

The LAPD alleges that a southbound driver hit the young man and …

… continued south on Chautauqua Boulevard without stopping to render aid or call for help.

The accident happened about 3 a.m. on Chautauqua north of Borgos Place, according to LAPD.

Police say that Pregerson “was in the roadway” when he was hit by a vehicle. We called investigators to get more detail but couldn't get through to anyone.

He was the son of U.S. District Court Judge Dean Pregerson. His grandfather was 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Harry Pregerson.

He was a delightful person to be around. He was always smiling.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who might know the whereabouts of the driver was asked to call detectives at (213) 473-0234.
