Police made an arrest in the brutal beating of a teenage girl by skateboarders in Venice last week.

The attack was captured on cellphone video (below). It happened Wednesday night after a crowd of skaters and onlookers moved from the city-owned Venice Beach Skate Park to a nearby parking lot at Pacific and Windward avenues.

A verbal dispute between the victim, identified in reports as a 16-year-old, and at least two skaters erupted at the park and culminated in that lot, according to video and reports.

One skater hit her in the head with a board, knocking the teen down. Then a skater tried to pull her up, apparently so another could pummel her and kick her.

She reportedly sustained a cracked skull and a broken jaw following the assault.

The man arrested was identified by police as 18-year-old Charles Rayner. According to L.A. Sheriff's Department inmate records, he was arrested at 7 p.m. Saturday and held in lieu of $30,000 bail until being released Sunday afternoon.

He was due in court April 23.

A man of the same name and birthdate was arrested for reasons unknown on Feb. 18 by Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Division officers, according to the inmate records. He ended up on probation, the sheriff's department says.

In those records, Rayner is described as 6 feet, 180 pounds.
