Dennis RomeroA Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputy was killed by her firefighter husband in what authorities say was a murder-suicide at their home.
The off-duty cop, who worked at the county jail's inmate reception center, was identified by her department as Cecilia Hoschet, 32.
The couple left behind a 6-year-old son, according to the department and news reports.
Deputies responding to a Sunday night report of “a woman screaming” at a residence in the 5000 block of Crown Avenue in La Cañada Flintridge found Hoschet dead from “a gunshot wound,” deputies said in a statement.
That was at 9:51 p.m., sheriff's officials said. The two-year veteran was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband, later identified as county firefighter James M. Taylor, reportedly radioed responding county paramedics to notify them they'd find a “d.b.,” for dead body, at the location, and to say that it would be safe to enter.
Taylor took the 6-year-old to the home of the boy's grandparents, according to multiple reports. Then, according to a sheriff's statement, this happened:
Homicide detectives learned that the husband of the victim, a firefighter and 5-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, entered the residence and allegedly shot the female victim. The suspect then fled the scene and drove to Los Angeles County Fire Facility in Pacoima, where he killed himself. The suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Los Angeles police found the body and notified colleagues at the sheriff's department, deputies said.
“We lost a wonderful deputy last night,” Sheriff Jim McDonnell said yesterday. “Deputy Cecilia Hoschet impressed everyone she met at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department with her positive and helpful approach to her work.”
