In stark contrast to the tone of most of the coverage of Daryl Gates' funeral, blogger and USC journalism professor Marc Cooper wants to know how much it cost and who's paying for it:
You all might remember there was a big stink raised here a year ago around how much the city had to fork out to handle logistics for the grotesque Michael Jackson pageant funeral.
I want to know, this time around, when the city is
cutting back services and threatening layoffs, when the LAPD remains
chronically understaffed, why as much as a nick[el] in public funds was
spent in disposing of [t]he carcass of Daryl Gates?
Don't look for Carmen Trutanich to take up that particular cause.
