Police in Redondo Beach say a 29-year-old man came forward to report that he was drugged, shaved head to toe and sexually assaulted — all while conscious but immobile. The suspect? An acquaintance and former cop.

The report, first unearthed in the Daily Breeze, was confirmed by Redondo Beach police Tuesday. John Haig Marshall, 53, was arrested on suspicion of “rape using an intoxicating substance” in connection with the case, stated Redondo Beach police Lt. Joe Hoffman. The victim reported the alleged crime last month.

The suspect was picked up near his home on North Catalina Avenue in Redondo Beach Oct. 8. A subsequent search of his residence turned up evidence “that corroborated the victim's account,” according to Hoffman.

Police are looking for other possible victims and say Marshall, who was briefly a Redondo Beach reserve officer in the early 1980s, has been the subject of claims of “drugging and sexually abusing other male victims spanning across the last thirty years,” the lieutenant states.

Marshall was released in lieu of $100,000 bail. His attorney told the Breeze that his client is not guilty and that readers should assume he's innocent until proven otherwise.

Police beg to differ and are asking anyone who might have information about the allegations against Marshall to call Det. Denise Brenner at 310-379-2477, ext. 2320.
