What do you do if you're a restaurant right outside the craziness that is gonna be Sunset Junction Street Fair this weekend? How do you convince the music-starved crowd to pop in for some gavacho-priced Mexican food and drinks?

Well, in the case of Sunset Blvd. cantina Malo (owned by the same folks who book the Echo and Spaceland), the answer is to throw a two-day free mini-music festival in their parking lot, right outside the “Exclusionary Zone,” pay-to-get-in stretch of the boulevard.

The mini-fest is called Conjuction Junction (geddit?) and it (arguably) features a higher proportion of interesting bands than Sunset Junction proper. On Saturday they have Jessica 6 (Hercules and Love Affair), Light Asylum, Woah Hunx, a DJ set by Killing Spree, and others, and on Sunday they have the currently hip Chicano Batman, plus special guests, Useless Keys, Light FM, DJ sets by Origami and LA Records, and much more.

Even if you paid for the Sunset Junction bracelet, make sure you pop out to Conjunction Junction Saturday around 9ish. We're not sure anything on the Fair will be able to beat the awesome strangeness of New York's Light Asylum (moody synths fronted by powerhouse singer Shannon Funchess–think an angry, mesmerizing Grace Jones). Something like this:
