An elite event to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Los Angeles Police Department, to mark the end of Chief William Bratton's tenure, and to provide yet another opening ceremony for the new Police Administration Building will feature Tonight Show host Conan O'Brien as an emcee, Wolfgang Puck as a caterer and Bacardi as a spirits provider.

The Saturday affair, the 10th annual “True Blue Gala,” benefits the Los Angeles Police Foundation and is open to those who can afford its big-ticket prices, which include $5,000 tables (sold out), “bronze star” sponsors ($10,000, including a table) and “premium star” packages that go for $100,000 and include an “on-screen video salute to Chief Bratton,” “platinum” seating and entrance to a VIP reception with Bratton. The Foundation provides funding to the department for safety equipment and expenditures not covered by the city. It also provides scholarships for students pursuing law enforcement careers.

Organizers of the event are expecting 800 people. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is the honorary chair and Jeffrey and Marilyn Katzenberg are co-chairs. We suspect the bouncers will be tougher than those at a Sam Nazarian club so don't crash it. But if you happen to be invited in, send us a photo.
