Event PickKeeping tracking of all the hot “cons” in L.A. these days can get a bit “con”-fusing, but they all have one thing in common: they were created to celebrate culture and not just the “pop” kind. Before a fandom breaks into the mainstream, it’s the creators in the streets and underground who bring it to light. ComplexCon has quickly become one of the best in this regard, with its curated gathering of influential new brands and artists. Like Comic-Con, DragCon, DesignerCon (also this weekend) and their ilk, there is stuff to buy and experience, much of it immersive.

Sneaker culture, fashion, art, music, toys and technology will be available to consume, in more ways than one, at the two-day affair. Artistic director for 2022 is Japanese graphic designer Verdy (Girls Don’t Cry and Wasted Youth), who touts a punk rock ethos and vibe. His collaborating brands Awake NY, UNION, Born x Raised, Undercover – will have a big presence this weekend, too. Now in its seventh year, ComplexCon is also putting more focus on food with a fest within the fest: “Eat Your Feed Festival,” a collaboration with First We Feast and Tasty. Like the other components of this con, it touts “experiential” opportunities for fans to meet creators in the culinary community, from gourmet to street food.

As always, expect drops, panels and performances, including this year’s big Sunday night performance NIGO® performing I KNOW NIGO® featuring pals like Kodak Black guesting on stage. DJs Donovan’s Yard, Soulection and many more, provide sounds throughout the weekend and Amazon Music will be live-streaming it all on Twitch. Check out who’ll have goods in the marketplace here. ComplexCon, At Long Beach Convention center, 300 E. Ocean Blvd. Long Beach; Sat.-Sun., Nov. 19-20. complexcon.com.
