22-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck in Big-Rig Accident near South Street

AUSTIN, NV (August 4, 2022) – Late Friday afternoon, Cole Thayer was pronounced dead after a semi-truck crash along US 50.

Police responded to the scene around 4:25 p.m., near South Street.

According to reports, the driver of a Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling at high rates of speed before crossing the double yellow line and colliding head-on with a Ford pickup-truck.

First responders arrived and found Thayer, the driver of the Ford, with life-threatening injuries. Due to the extent of his condition, medics later pronounced 22-year-old Thayer dead at the scene.

Additionally, the driver of the Freightliner was injured and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Although, authorities have not yet released their identity.

A large portion of the roadway was temporarily shutdown to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties. Meanwhile, no other information is available at this time. Further investigations are still underway.
