The U.S. Coast Guard was unable to find a woman who was seen clinging to the pilings under the Santa Monica Pier Sunday night.

The unidentified woman was seen Newcomb Pier around 9 p.m., and the search went on until Monday morning, when the Coast Guard ultimately suspended the search efforts.

“Coast Guard suspends the search for the missing unidentified female who was last seen underneath the Santa Monica Newcomb Pier,” The Coast Guard in Los Angeles said Monday. “… partner agencies searched more than 93 square nautical miles with multiple surface and air assets.”

Among those involved in the search were the L.A. County Lifeguards and Santa Monica Police Dept. Harbor Patrol.

While the search was suspended,  L.A. County Lifeguards said they would still conduct periodic patrols with with land-based units and rescue boats.
