As we head into mid-April, it sure feels like winter.

In spring.

Earlier forecasts said we could be hit with a couple more waves of wetness following the weekend's rain, but now it looks as if we could be in the clear.

Good thing, because we're not sure rain has ever been invited to perform at Coachella.

Forecasters now are calling for offshore flow and normal to above-normal temps for much of Southern California by next weekend. The deserts could see temps in the 80s.

The National Weather Service office in San Diego is forecasting high temperatures of 82 Friday and 85 Saturday for Indio, California, Coachella's host city. Lows were predicted to be 62 and 65, respectively. Sunday's forecast high? 89.

Perfection.

Keep your fingers crossed, however.

The National Weather Service and other atmosphere aficionados have had a hard time making the right call in recent days.

Yesterday the NWS called for a chance of thunderstorms and the “possibility of locally heavy rain” Sunday. Flooding was even said to be a possibility.

That didn't happen. Another front expected to bring the possibility of rain midweek appears to have been downgraded, too.

“Dry weather is expected for Tuesday and Wednesday as high pressure briefly returns,” the NWS said in a statement. “A moisture-starved front will move through the area on Thursday, followed by high pressure and offshore flow likely leading to above-normal temperatures by next weekend.”

Woo-hoo!

Private forecaster AccuWeather is less bullish on the long-term forecast, however. “There is no sign of any return of warm weather in sight,” said AccuWeather senior meteorologist Ken Clark.

The verdict? Pay close attention to the forecast before you head out to Indio. Bikinis and boardshorts might not cut it.

God forbid.

UPDATE at 2:45 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2016: Our prediction of perfect weather might have been premature. As you're probably aware, north to northwest winds are trying to blow Southern California off the map today.

The smart people at the National Weather Service office in San Diego warned Coachella organizers on Tuesday that high winds were possible, and, as a result, promoters “took extra precautions and preparations and made the facilities a little more resilient to the wind,” says NWS meteorologist Mark Moede.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't be aware, however.

A high-wind warning is in effect for Indio, California, until 11 a.m. tomorrow. Moede says gusts tonight could reach 45 miles per hour.

The winds on Saturday could reach 20 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 40, he said. Sunday will likely see winds at 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 35.

Temperatures will be normal for the area, with highs this weekend expected to range from 88 on Saturday to 91 on Sunday. Lows will be in the mid- to low-60s, Moede said.
