No, dummy, we made the Dexy's rumor up. But a few names are starting to trickle out re: Coachella 2009, which runs from April 17 to April 19. The Consequence of Sound blog has a pretty extensive rundown of confirmations it has gathered from culling MySpace pages and band tour dates, and a decent list is already taking shape. Among the LA artists listed as confirmed are No Age, Flying Lotus, Peanut Butter Wolf and the Airborne Toxic Event, as well as bigger national names like (ugh) the Killers, Girl Talk, the Hold Steady and Fleet Foxes.

But it's the littler surprises on this list that are the most beguiling. Specifically, Tinariwen is listed as confirmed, which is great news; the group of north African Tuareg musicians create gorgeous guitar music of the style called Tishoumaren, which is translated as the “music of the unemployed.” (They should be a huge hit this year, eh?) No word on whether Robert Plant will be joining them. Also confirmed are the great Crystal Castles, dirty dubstep master The Bug, and Los Campesinos.

As far as the rumors go, we're going to list a few of them: Basement Jaxx, Pavement, Outkast, Blur, The Specials, The Smiths, Neil Young. These are all just rumors, some more fanciful than others. We're going to make a few phone calls and start banging on doors to see what else is rumbling under the surface. We'll keep updating this as the weekend approaches.
