Alec Baldwin Accidentally Shoots and Kills Crew Member, Halyna Hutchins, Injures 1 More
SANTA FE, AZ (October 22, 2021) – Halyna Hutchins, 42, was killed and Director Joel Souza, 48, was wounded after a prop gun was discharged by Alec Baldwin on the set of his new western “Rust”.
According to Santa Fe officials, the fatal shooting occurred at an old church, where they were filming in Bonanza Creek around 1:50 pm.
Investigators stated the prop firearm was discharged during the filming, or rehearsing, of a scene for unknown reasons.
Emergency crews airlifted Hutchins to the University of New Mexico Hospital where she was declared dead. Meanwhile, Souza was taken to Christus St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment, however his condition has not been released at this time.
Baldwin sent a tweet on Friday saying; “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours, I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred…”
Furthermore, the investigation remains open and ongoing, Santa Fe detectives stated. “We are investigating how and why type of projectile was discharged”
