CicLAvia, Los Angeles' celebrated outdoor bike ride, has the misfortune of being scheduled the weekend after Boston's tragic terror attack. It starts Sunday at 10 a.m. and runs from downtown to Venice.

Like the Boston Marathon, the route runs along many miles (about 15 in this case) of streets lined with people who will be impossible to fully vet:

The LAPD says security will be beefed up for Sunday's event.

Officer Christopher No tells the Weekly:

There will be extra patrols because of the events on th East Coast. There will be undercover officers out there.

Experts say it would be impossible to fully control the kind of people coming in and out of open sporting events such as marathons and cycling sessions.

But undercover cops would at least provide some deterrence.

A CicLAvia spokesman said he was very confident in the LAPD's abilities here. A press conference about Metro transportation to and from the event, as well as about security, was scheduled for tomorrow.
