It’s been a pretty un-jolly holiday month thanks to the pandemic, but one of the season’s coolest past times is thankfully safe to do, even in Covid times. Going to see Christmas lights can take place in your car and if you do it on foot, it’s safer than most things since it’s outdoors (don’t forget your masks though). Here’s a list of the brightest spots in L.A. in which to get lit up again.

Kat Von D’s Merry Mansion

The tattoo artist/former beauty mogul and her husband Prayers’ Rafael Reyes have turned their gorgeous L.A. home into a Christmas nirvana that kids will especially love. And it’s free. This week they added a snow machine. Nightly. 4701 w. 4th St., Windsor Square, Hancock Park.

Christmas Tree Lane

Have yourself a cedar-y Christmas driving thru this mile-long road of decked out trees in Altadena. Covered in lights every holiday season, it’s a sight to behold.  Open now through January 7.  Santa Rosa Ave, between Woodbury Ave. and Altadena Dr., Altadena. christmastreelane.glideapp.io/

WonderLAnd

Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Holiday in the Park

If you miss the rollercoasters and thrill rides this wont satisfy you, but you will get to drive past them, at least. Yes you get to roll inside the actual park at this holiday affair filled with dancers, musicians and lots of people waving and saying, “happy holidays,” plus light displays galore. Upper Hastings Ranch

The homeowners holiday displays in this Pasadena neighborhood are always worth a drive by with theme decorations like candy canes, santas, snowflakes and the like. Open through January 2, nightly from 6 to 10pm). North of Sierra Madre Blvd and east of Michilinda Ave.

Holiday Road

LA Dodgers’ Holiday

Visions 90210

Beverly Hills’ “Visions of Holiday Glamour” is the city’s first fashion-inspired installation. Famed shopping mecca Rodeo Drive is set up like a runway with winter foliage, ornaments, lights and opulent manniquins in festive garb. Electric Noel

This all-ages drive-thru touts a “completely contactless” journey with narration via FM radio transmission, beginning in an elf village, and onto Mistletoe Lane. Holidays in Your Car

This “immersive drive-thru lights extravaganza” features holograms, projections, lasers and lights that should excite the whole family. Santa’s Speedway

Another all ages experience offered from the safety of your car, this one promises a Christmas wonderland on the famed NASCAR track.  Expect to see “the World’s Largest Free Standing Light Tree” (from the company responsible for the Grove, Universal Studios and Warner Brothers’ holiday fanfare) plus immersive visuals and music during this 45 minute experience.  Open thru January 10, 2021 at 5 p.m., and runs every 15 min.  Irwindale Speedway & Event Center. 500 Speedway Drive, Irwindale. $75 Per car. santasspeedway.com 

Candy Cane Lane

Clark Griswald eat your heart out. Candy Cane Lane features neighbors out-doing each other with garish and amazing Xmas decor in Woodland Hills (Lubao Avenue and Oxnard Street) which has been the norm for years.
