A child about 4- or 5-years-old was struck and killed by a vehicle that was being chased by police, and the driver remained at large, authorities said. It all started at 6:19 p.m. Thursday near Foothill Boulevard and Terra Bella Street in Sylmar when police responding to a call about a man with a gun ended up pursuing a suspect vehicle, said Officer Gregory Baek of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The chase came to an end when the vehicle hit the child in the 11900 block of Fenton Avenue near Van Nuys Boulevard in Lake View Terrance, police said. “The suspect struck a 4- or 5-year-old child that ended up pinned against a wall,'' said Officer April Harding. “The child died at the hospital.''

Police cordoned off the area and searched for the driver to no avail. Two passengers were apprehended.
