Just when you thought you've done it all, this comes along: Think Tank Gallery hosts a Chessboxing match in its 7,500-square-foot, former fabric warehouse turned one-stop-shop for art and entertainment. Chessboxing is just what it sounds like: a new, crossbred sport where two opponents spar without abandon for three minutes, then sit down for a civilized round of chess for the next three. They keep going until one opponent wins, either on the board or in the ring. To the naked eye, the contenders may seem like a couple of masochists, but in reality they're doing it for the children. Proceeds from tickets and any additional donations go to the charity of the winner's choice. The Think Tank Gallery is located in the historic Fashion District in downtown Los Angeles; while you're there, check out its exhibition “Chilled Air,” featuring a smorgasbord of artists, a mini pop-up theater and a skate art park. Think Tank Gallery, 939 Maple Ave., Ste. 200, dwntwn.; Thu., July 3, 7 p.m.; $15-$25. lachessboxing.com, thinktankgallery.org.
