Philanthropic food lovers, mark your calendars: on October 6th some of the biggest and most sustainability minded chefs in the city, along with some conscientious local farmers, are coming together for the fundraiser Good Food for All, A Taste of the Los Angeles Foodshed.
Hosted by the nonprofit group Roots of Change, the event will raise money for Hunger Action LA and Sustainable Economic Enterprises Los Angeles: two groups dedicated to improving the quality of life in the city through food.
The evening will also feature the unveiling of the first report from LA's Food Policy Task Force, whose mission is to provide access to good food for all Angelenos, particularly those in poorest communities.
Each participating chef has been paired with a farmer, so attendees will get to taste dishes made with local and seasonal ingredients.
Tiffany Nurrenbern from Roots of Change said that Neal Fraser and Amy Knoll Fraser of Grace and BLD , were two of the first people to get involved. “They started putting the word out to their friends and it just spread like wild fire. So many chefs responded that we had to make the event bigger than originally planned.”
More than 35 chefs, including Suzanne Goin, Mark Gold, Nancy Silverton, Josiah Citrin and Evan Kleiman, will be on hand at the event.
“Whether at the local farmers' market, school bake sale, church potluck, neighborhood taco truck, L.A.'s top restaurants, or family dinner table, food is at the foundation of the communities that make Los Angeles great,” says Kleiman. “All Angelenos deserve access to abundant safe, healthy, fresh, affordable food.”
