Nearly two decades ago, David Bowie and Iman got engaged in Kerry Simon's kitchen. Last week, “rock 'n roll chef” Simon (Simon LA, LA Market) really got to rock out, stepping up to the mic for KCRW's Guest DJ Project.

Following in the footsteps of Rick Bayless, who crafted a Latin-tinged playlist for KCRW, Simon selected a five-song set-list of hard rockers. The dyed-in-the-wool 1970s rocker favors Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, The Rolling Stones' “Exile on Main Street” and Bowie. Now working with “Hell's Kitchen” winner Nona Sivley, Simon's full set-list as well as choice anecdotes, including the Bowie/Iman engagement story, from his interview with Raul Campos can be streamed or downloaded here.

[Author's Note: The Crocs reference in the title is solely for the expediency of the rhyme. We like to think that, in reality, Simon wears dusty black rocker boots.]
