Michele StuevenGourmet hot dog kitchen Vicky’s Doghouse will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, September 11 on the fantail of the Battleship USS Iowa Museum in San Pedro. Vicky’s Doghouse will serve a variety of gourmet hot dogs, salads, sides and beverages in an outdoor venue on the historic battleship overlooking the Port of Los Angeles. A variety of choices includes the Destroyer (chili, onions and cheddar cheese sauce), the Battlewagon (jalapenos, banana peppers, bacon, avocado, onions and tomatoes) and the U Boat with mustard and sauerkraut.
The legendary Pike Restaurant & Bar, owned by musician Chris Reece, former drummer for Social Distortion, will mark National Cheeseburger Day on September 18 by offering $15 cheeseburgers for $10 from 12 noon to 10 p.m. Each order includes a free soft drink or 10-ounce Pabst Blue Ribbon. The restaurant is located along Retro Row in Long Beach and starting at 8 p.m., WC Edgar will take to the stage to perform his playlist of original American outlaw tunes – there is no cover charge to attend.
The Pike will offer any of its trio of cheeseburgers, including the Blue Cheeseburger with bacon and blue cheese crumbles on a French roll, the Jalapeño Cheeseburger with roasted jalapenos and Swiss cheese or the Beyond Burger with vegan pepper jack cheese, grilled onions, avocado and a brioche bun for $10 each on September 18 only. All burgers include lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions with a helping of fries on the side.

OREO is teaming up with global entertainment franchise Pokémon to bring fans a unique collaboration featuring a limited-edition Pokémon and OREO cookie pack that pays tribute to some of the popular Pokémon characters with 16 unique cookie embossments of Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle.
To celebrate the partnership, OREO and Pokémon are bringing the collaboration to life with an art installation located on the Venice Beach Boardwalk in Los Angeles featuring a pixelated Pikachu made out of 3D replicas of the limited edition cookies. From September 7 to October 3, the installation will include more than 8,000 3D replicas of the Pokémon x OREO Cookies placed on an 8-foot high by 22-foot wide mural to create a larger-than-life, Pikachu-themed design.

The Los Angeles Zoo sustainable wine and dinner series will return on Thursday, September 23 with Landmark Vineyards. The intimate evening will feature a conversation on the critically endangered berrendo, commonly known as the peninsular pronghorn, and the Los Angeles Zoo’s cross-collaborative work with the Peninsular Pronghorn Recovery Project in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
After a visit to the Zoo’s berrendo habitat for a discussion led by Director of Animal Programs Beth Schaefer, guests will enjoy a five-course dinner prepared by L.A. Zoo’s Executive Chef Eileen Aguilera paired with Landmark Vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. A vineyard rep will be on hand to introduce each wine and discuss the importance of sustainable practices in California agriculture. The second dinner in this series will be held on October 21 with Honig Vineyard and Winery.
This is a 21+ event. Space is limited and reservations are required. For entry, guests must present proof of vaccination or negative COVID test result within 72 hours of the event date. Face coverings will be required during some portions of the evening’s program. All ticket sales are final.

El Carmen, the historic Los Angeles Tequila Bar & Taqueria, celebrates Mexican Independence Day, Thursday, September 16. In its early years and under the ownership of founder Encarnacion Elias Gomez, El Carmen was frequented by luminaries that included Busby Berkeley, Cecil B. DeMille, Boris Karloff, Ricardo Montalban, Nat King Cole, Loretta Young, Diego Rivera, Mario Lanza and Vincent Price.
Offers at El Carmen include Hidalgo’s Grito, a cocktail specially created for the occasion at $10. El Carmen will also feature their classic margaritas for $5, Modelitos for $4, and tacos (asada, pollo and papas) for $3 each. A Mariachi band will entertain the crowd from 7-9 p.m.
