47-Year-Old Deputy Fatally Struck in Collision near North 87th Street

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (November 12, 2021) – Late Wednesday morning, Chad Brackman was killed in a pedestrian accident on McDowell Road.

The incident occurred while Brackman was working traffic control off-duty. Responders arrived to the scene near 87th Street after receiving multiple dispatch calls.

Officers say a 69-year-old Scottsdale woman drove through traffic barriers in a construction zone and struck Brackman.

Due to the impact, the 47-year-old officer was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. There, he was later pronounced dead.

Police have not yet said whether or not the female driver will face criminal charges. She also sustained injuries in the collision, and was taken to a hospital for treatment. No other occupants were inside her vehicle.

The surrounding area was closed during cleanup and preliminary duties. Although, the road has since reopened.
