22-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed in Deadly Accident near East Keyes Road

KEYES, CA (December 3, 2021) – Sunday afternoon, 22-year-old Cesario Nepomoceno was killed in a pedestrian crash on State Route 99.

The crash happened around 1:40 p.m., on the southbound lanes of the highway just north of E Keyes Road. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after.

California Highway Patrol said 38-year-old Humberto Gonzalez was driving his Lincoln Sedan south at approximately 70 miles per hour when he struck a pedestrian crossing the street.

Officer arrived and located the pedestrian in critical condition. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, the pedestrian later succumbed from his injuries. Authorities identified him as Cesario Nepomoceno, 22, of Merced.

Meanwhile, the Lincoln driver, Gonzales and his 17-year-old old male juvenile passenger remained uninjured.

At this time, it is unknown whether speed, drugs, or alcohol played a role in the crash. However, an active investigation is underway.
