Driver and Passenger Hospitalized after Collision on California Avenue

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 1, 2022) – 32-year-old Cesar Gonzalez was arrested after a pursuit crash on Highway 99, Wednesday night.

Officers say the chase started around 8:50 p.m., on February 23.

Per reports, authorities attempted to stop a reported stolen vehicle in the area. However, the driver failed to stop the vehicle and fled on Highway 99 in the wrong direction, resulting in a police chase.

The suspect vehicle exited at California Avenue shortly after. The driver then collided with a power pole near Palm Street and Real Road. Upon impact, the vehicle caught fire.

Responding medics took Gonzalez and his passenger to the hospital for treatment of unspecified leg injuries.

Eventually, police arrested Cesar Gonzalez on charges of auto theft, felony evading, an unrelated felony arrest warrant, and other pursuit charges.
