Onetime Food Network chef Juan-Carlos Cruz was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office Monday with attempted murder. Prosecutors allege the 48-year-old tried to have his wife killed.

As we reported over the weekend, Cruz was arrested by Santa Monica police after at least two homeless people in that city came forward to allege that the chef had asked them if they would someone for a fee.

Cruz had hosted Food Network's Calorie Commando program. He was being held in lieu of $5 million bail.
