Matthew Moen Arrested after Running Red Light and Fatally Striking 2 Victims on 5th Avenue
CHICO, CA (February 3, 2022) – Cassi Tejeda and Courtney Kendall were killed in a DUI collision on Neal Dow Avenue, Sunday night.
The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m., near the intersection of 5th and Neal Dow Avenue. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.
Per reports, 31-year-old Matthew Moen was driving at 80 mph in a 25 mph zone when he sped through the red light on Neal Dow. There, he struck a vehicle that was proceeding through a green light on 5th Avenue.
The vehicle that Moen hit was then pushed into the garage of a nearby house. Due to the impact of the collision, crews pronounced both occupants of that vehicle, dead at the scene.
Moreover, the man who lives in the house told Action News Now that he was sitting near his front window when it happened.
Chico authorities arrested 31-year-old Moen after the deadly DUI collision. At this time, he is held in lieu of $300,000 bail with two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Eventually, the Butte County Coroner’s Office identified the two deceased victims as 22-year-old Tejeda and 24-year-old Kendall.
