Casey Anthony might have gotten off, OJ-style, but now there's a national movement afoot to create the kind of federal law she might not have been able to tip-toe around.
Called “Caylee's Law,” the online petition via California-bred change.org is asking Congress to create legislation that would make it a coast-to-coast crime to fail to report that your child is missing.
Someone failed to add a crucial element:
Extenuating circumstances and added time if said parent goes out clubbing after her kid disappears.
(Anthony's daughter, 2-year-old Caylee, had been missing for a month before it was reported. Anthony, in the meantime, was said to have been partying. This week she was acquitted by a Florida jury of murder).
Just sayin.'
As is, the document reads, in part:
Caylee's Law … will make it a federal offense for a parent or guardian to not notify law enforcement of a child going missing in a timely manner. Let's keep another case like Caylee Anthony out of the courts.
Of course, if a lawmaker picks this up, he or she would likely have to sharpen its language and put a definitive time limit on the failure to report a missing baby.
The petition already had nearly half a million online endorsers, though no one from Congress had swooped it up for a legislational slam dunk (just wait).
