We're sensing a little Westside bias. Shutdown the 405 for less than a weekend and all other news must cease: The world is coming to an end.
But over on the Eastside they're going to have a little Carmageddon Jr. going on this weekend.
That's right, the 710 will be shut down overnight in both directions starting tonight. And it's a doozy worthy of at least a little press:
It'll be off limits from the 105 freeway to Atlantic Boulevard, effecting the cities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, South Gate and Downey.
And … (catches breath) … this will happen for 10 weekends through fall: According to Caltrans, those weekends are:
August: 5-8; 12-15; 19-22; 26-29
September: 9-12; 16-19; 23-26; 30-October 3 (No construction Sept.2-5, Labor Day)
October: 7-10; 14-17
The times are from 11:59 p.m. Friday until Saturday at 6 a.m. and from 11 p.m. Sunday until Monday at 5 a.m. Why?
Caltrans:
The work is part of the I-710 Long Life Pavement Project from Firestone Boulevard to Atlantic Boulevard to rehabilitate aging pavement and provide the roadway with several decades of service life, improved pavement performance and a smoother ride for the traveling public.
Don't say we didn't warn you.
