In the overkill media campaign that is Carmageddon, the folks at Metro are really starting to bring out the big guns to make sure you know the 405 freeway through West L.A. and the Sepulveda Pass will be off limits on the weekend of July 16.

That's right, they got Poncharello to do their bidding. (Ah, the good old days, when Latinos needed Italian names to make prime-time TV).

Metro unleashed a video PSA with Eric Estrada at the helm:

We're way disappointed that he wasn't wearing his tight, disco-cop pants from CHiPs. (Don't fit anymore, huh, Ponch?).

[We like this video way better. Ah, the days of the disco theme song ….

Anyway, we're sick of Carmageddon, and we're willing to bet that the shutdown between the 10 and 101 freeways (on a weekend, no less, to blow up the old Mulholland bridge) will not actually be the end of the world.

No, we predict this particular stretch of the Westside will be a ghost town — as it always is in mid-friggin' summer.

So lighten up, people. Watch you some TV Land.
