Chase Hammonds Arrested after Hit-and-Run Collision near Highway 70

OLIVEHURST, CA (September 17, 2021) – Wednesday afternoon, Carly Ojeda and Deanna Hernandez were killed in a wrong-way crash on Highway 60.

Around 2:08 p.m., police began pursuing a stolen Ford pickup-truck driven by Chase Hammonds, of Los Molinos.

According to reports, the Ford was driving the wrong way on Highway 65, approaching Highway 70. As he was driving north in the southbound lanes, Hammonds eventually struck a Dodge Durango head-on.

Investigators say Hammonds attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, he was located and arrested a short time later.

The Dodge occupants, Carly Theresa Ojeda, 55, and Deanna Francine Hernandez, 36, were both pronounced dead at the hospital. They were both from Marysville.

Upon his release from the hospital, 25-year-old Chase P. Hammonds will be immediately booked into jail.

Hammonds faces charges of auto theft, felony evading, crossing a divided highway, felony hit-and-run, two counts of murder.
