Victim Pronounced Dead after Auto Collision on Applegate Road

MERCED COUNTY, CA (May 19, 2022) – A vehicle crash on Highway 99 claimed the life of 28-year-old Carlos Miguel early Monday.

Officers responded to the scene around 1:00 a.m., in a construction zone on the northbound lanes of the highway.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered a 2012 BMW 328i collided with a parked paving vehicle in the highway’s closed construction zone.

Investigators believed that the car entered northbound in 99 from a closed on-ramp in Applegate Road.

Afterward, the vehicle traveled through a newly patched stretch of the construction zone and turned onto a dirt road. As a result, the vehicle hit a K-rail and landed against the paving machine.

Responding officials declared the driver of the BMW, 28-year-old Miguel, dead at the scene.

At this time, officials suspected that alcohol was a factor in the incident. Merced County authorities continue to investigate the fatal crash.

No words can mend the broken hearts and sorrow felt during this delicate moment. Deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of Carlos Miguel.
