Brandon Spharler Arrested after Deadly DUI Crash near Airport Boulevard

RED BLUFF, CA (September 17, 2021) – Wednesday morning, Carlos Beltazar was identified as the deceased victim of a pedestrian accident.

The deadly incident happened around 10:15 a.m., on Luther Road and Airport Boulevard. Dispatchers arrived to the scene shortly after.

Per reports, Beltazar and 51-year-old Darren Rasmussen of Red Bluff, were walking on the west side of Luther Road. There, they were struck by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Brandon L. Spharler, of Red Bluff.

Shortly after, paramedics responded and pronounced Carlos Sonney Beltazar, 41, dead at the scene. Darrin Lester Rasmussen was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with major injuries.

Meanwhile, Spharler was arrested and booked into the Tehama County Jail. He currently faces charges of DUI, and gross vehicular manslaughter.

At this time, CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. No further details have been given.
