79-Year-Old Woman Killed, One Other Hospitalized after Collision near La Barr Meadows

NEVADA COUNTY, CA (April 22, 2022) – Monday afternoon, an accident along Highway 49 injured Carla Viera and killed one.

The incident happened around 1:00 p.m., near Young American Mine Road, when a tree fell and crushed a 2005 Honda Accord. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.

Investigators stated that the collision killed the driver, a 79-year-old woman, and injured the passenger, Viera, who was transported to a hospital for further treatment.

As a result, three additional cars also collided with the tree but no other injuries or fatalities were reported.

Meanwhile, authorities diverted eastbound traffic off the highway to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.

At this time, Nevada County Officials continue to investigate the crash and will release more information as it becomes available to the public.
